Simulations of Gas Flow from a Galactic Disk to the BH - dominated Central Disk

چکیده

With a help of hydrodynamical models, we explore fundamental modes of gas flow in central parts of a galaxy potential with non-axisymmetric perturbations of various strengths. Our grid-based algorithm allows us to get a detailed picture of gas dynamics down to about 10 pc from the galaxy center, where the central black hole becomes dominant. Gas inflow in a bar with an Inner Lindblad Resonance often stops at the nuclear ring. We find that embedded bars in resonant coupling are unlikely to increase the inflow, but for certain gas parameters in a single bar, inflow to the center develops in a spiral shock, similar to the patterns observed in nuclear discs of real galaxies. The spiral pattern persists for very weak non-axisymmetries of the potential.

Magnetically Torqued Neutrino-Dominated Accretion Flows for Gamma-ray Bursts

Recent observations and theoretical work on gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) favor the central engine model of a Kerr black hole (BH) surrounded by a magnetized neutrino-dominated accretion flow (NDAF). The magnetic coupling between the BH and disk through a large-scale closed magnetic field exerts a torque on the disk, and transports the rotational energy from the BH to the disk. We investigate the pro...

Mushroom-Shaped Structures as Tracers of Buoyant Flow in the Galactic Disk

Recent Hi emission observations of the Southern Galactic hemisphere have revealed a mushroom-like structure extending from z = −70 to −450 pc, composed of a stem and a cap. Similar structures occur in three-dimensional simulations of a dynamic galactic disk driven by isolated and clustered supernovae. Using these simulations, we show that hot gas in the Galactic disk that is not evacuated throu...

Do We Expect Most AGN to Live in Disks?

Recent observations have indicated that a large fraction of the low to intermediate luminosity AGN population lives in disk-dominated hosts, while the more luminous quasars live in bulge-dominated hosts (that may or may not be major merger remnants), in conflict with some previous model predictions. We therefore build and compare a semi-empirical model for AGN fueling which accounts for both me...

Bulges versus disks: the evolution of angular momentum in cosmological simulations of galaxy formation

We investigate the evolution of angular momentum in simulations of galaxy formation in a cold dark matter universe. We analyse two model galaxies produced in the Nbody/hydrodynamic simulations of Okamoto et al. Starting from identical initial conditions, but using different assumptions for the baryonic physics, one of the simulations produced a bulge-dominated galaxy and the other one a disk-do...

Simulating the formation of disk galaxies: The impact of Jets from Active Galactic Nuclei

Recent semi-analytic models have highlighted the role of AGN jets in regulating the formation of galaxies. In this paper, we present a new implementation of feedback due to active galactic nuclei (AGN) in cosmological hydrodynamic simulations of galaxy formation in which AGN feedback is assumed to heat the halo gas through the production of jets. Combining a theoretical model of mass accretion ...
